From the Manual: Initial charge of lithium polymer battery 3hrs – after that if empty takes less than 2hrs. A 15min top-up provides approx 1.5hrs GPS. Once fully charge if the GPS is not used battery lasts approx 1yr. With GPS on approx 14hrs. The battery is good for approx 500 charging cycles. The watch charges via a PC and connecting to the PC is done with a clip-on USB lead.

The one I received was set to German but was soon change to English by following the system setting instructions found to the rear of the GB owner’s manual. Any issues with the translation of the on screen dialogue can by resolved by comparing the relevant sections from the German and GB owner’s manuals. A total of 4 different language owners manuals are supplied. The PC software is easy to install and gives encouragement to use the watch’s full functionality. You can down load all of the data recorded on the watch and review your routes and performance etc

The watch is light and very comfortable to wear even when active, the screen display is big enough to take in the data at a glance, the function buttons are large and easy to activate whilst on the move, the GPS signal was quickly and easily found in dull cloudy weather conditions, but not tried in snowy conditions and the compass display was easily switched to and visible at a glance and a good general guide to direction.

The heart rate monitor which is finger touch activated wouldn’t work when the watch was first put on when the weather was cold, this may have been due to my skin being cold/dry as described in the manual but this corrected as I got warmer.

The workout mode records and displays your current performance, the results of which can be downloaded to a PC so you can review your performance. It offers 5 different activity profiles which can be edited on the PC and each profile has 3 views, with 3 data fields which can be personalised to suit your own interests, and is easy to do using the PC software.

Overall the watch has performed well with the added benefit of user friendly PC software and because of its fairly compact size doesn’t look too out of place if used as a general watch. My initial small irritation with button functions whilst out jogging have now dissipated as I’ve become accustomed to where each function is without interrupting my routine. One final thing, I keep the GPS off other than when I’m doing a routine by doing the following: In ‘Workout Mode’ press and hold the ‘View Button’ for approx 2sec, and to turn on just do the same again.

Almost counterintuitive – very clunky and difficult to use. Does the job – sort of!, 29 Dec 2011

I love my gadgets and I am just starting to run. I thought this would motivate me to get going.

First the good points. It tells the time. The time is corrected to the exact time by connecting to the GPS signal. This would keep this exact and accurate.

To be honest, I think that that is the end of the list of good points.

Setting up this watch was a nightmare. The instructions are unclear and the watch is really fiddly to set up. Even setting the correct time was a huge task. The watch has a very annoying beep which can be switched off if only you could work out how. The trouble is, the more buttons you press to try to work out how to switch the beep off, the more irritating it becomes.

The display is very old fashioned. Looks like a 1980s watch. One of the selling points is that this is ‘slimline’. It is the chunkiest watch I have ever worn. There is no way of using a stopwatch without starting the GPS which then saps the battery. The alarms have to be set from the setup menu of the watch which is crazy, as does the timer duration. You have to stop running and put your finger on the bar to take a pulse – it won’t do it while you are running. My hands were cold this morning, so it did not register my pulse at all.

The GPS facility is slow to connect and when it eventually does, the customised display is very difficult to interpret. It uses very obscure icons for speed and pace and altitude so, at a glance, it is quite difficult to see what on earth is going on.

The computer software is very old looking. Downloading the data from the watch is slow and the clip that connects to the computer has to be wiggled make a decent connection. When it did eventually connect, it took the data off the watch and showed the route I had run on a Google map. Not terribly accurate without any annotation. The next time I connected the watch up to the computer, the software crashed and I had to restart it. When I tried to retrieve the data again, I was told there was no data on the watch and my first 2 days runs had been lost completely. As far as I can see, there is no way to print out reports etc. Just not what you would expect in this price range.

I have an iPhone. I have downloaded the Nike running app. This cost about a hundreth of the price of this watch and does absolutely everything and so much more. I thought it would be easier not to have to strap the iPhone to my arm but I have changed my mind.

In summary – this is a terrible watch. I don’t give one star lightly but this has been a very frustrating experience. The iPhone/iPod Touch app is SO SO SO SO much better.
