Technically, this little GPS "sports computer" does what it claims to do (if it were packaged in a tin, you could roll out a cliche at this point) but I have some major reservations about it, particularly given the price of the unit. It's not cheap and the user-friendliness aspect is wholly missing.

In the box you get:

- the unit itself - slightly larger than a small matchbox and weighing about 50g
- a strap to let you wear it on your wrist
- a device for attaching it to a bike
- a mini cd with software
- an instruction book
- charger cable.

The software downloads easily enough although on downloading the Travel and Sports Suite I had a message to say an updated version was available but when I clicked through to download that, had the message that it couldn't be found.

But once you've downloaded it, you are on your own. There's little in the way of instruction on how you might use this and it's not particularly intuitive. Eventually I worked out how to download a route to the unit but it was hard going and frustrating. A video link would be helpful.

The instruction book is basically a German version translated into other languages (yes, including English). However, the images within the instructions of the unit to help you with set up and use all have screens in German that haven't been translated. It's not a deal breaker, but at this value, I'd have appreciated that extra thought to the user.

It's claimed that you can use it as a wrist watch type device - allowing a more hands-free experience when you are out. Well, yes, provided you don't mind looking like you've stepped out of a 1970s sci fi movie. It's a chunky thing to have on your wrist and at least initially is annoyingly heavy and always quite bulky. It does stay on the wrist but is not comfortable and certainly not stylish. The bike attachment works well - no complaint there.

And so to the practicalities of use. The unit has a multitude of screens (speed, pedometer, altitude, compass, pace, distance etc). The set up is not intuitive and the screens are busy and while carrying an impressive amount of data, not exactly critical for use. It's as if it's been designed solely by technical bods rather than by users. The only thing it doesn't show is the energy expended while shouting at the unit while out! Clever, yes - but useful and user friendly, much less so. If you are expecting a Sat Nav kind of directional guidance system, this isn't it. What it will do is give you endless stats about what you've done and where you've been. Useful if you are a dedicated athlete - say a fell runner or a triathlete maybe, but for most, it feels like data for data's sake. Having battled with it for a month to assess it, I won't be taking it with me on my next outing. It's just too confusing and although it does what it claims to do, that isn't particularly interesting or useful.

Most of all though, where it fails is not on the cleverness of what it does, but on design. If Apple had never existed, then maybe we would all thinking this is what tech looks like - but it looks and feels terribly dated.

If you are looking at this thinking "oh, I need that data" then get it by all means, but if you are thinking "that might be fun and useful" don't - it isn't. And it is certainly not a navigation device - it's a recorder of where you have been.

I can't believe I just spent almost £170 on this; I must have been mad. let me explain I'm 52, pretty fit but wanted to have a record of what I was doing both when I was training and when I had finished. First up let me give you the positives. This is a good looking piece of kit, light and the orange dial is quite eye catching without looking garish or trashy. the HR strap that goes around your chest is easy to figure out, is comfortable and doesn't slip even during aggresive exercise. Thereafter I'm struggling and here's why; I use reading glasses (1:75) and struggle to read the dial when the HR monitor is switched on; the timing/stopwatch function sits just below that and I cannot make that out at all without specs on. when running in the dark, the bottom right switch on the face dial needs to be pressed in to 'glow' and I cant make it out at all, waste of time.
to try and understand the instructions to get the watch doing its basic functions, you need at least a PhD, its that complicated and not helped by the half dozen open out intsructions in 15 languages that comes in the box and again are not clear. the online instructions are again over complicated and nothing is simple to use or understand. perhaps my biggest bugbear though is the relationship between the watch, The HR monitor and the online MovesLink site which is an absolute nightmare to set up and thereafter to get back into. Tonight I wanted to upload my last 3 'Moves' into MovesLink and after an hour I have eventually given up. The Moves have gone from my watch, the MovesLink site cannot reveal them to me and the site appears to have simply frozen. I am astonished that the makers of this kit have put out something which is this complicated to use especially for the money. Speaking to some mates at my running club and gym, everyone has the same message, if you want to buy something like this, pay little for something that boasts simple use and functions. The more money you spend, apparently the more complicated and useless these things are. I have a busy lifestyle, I don't have an hour or two to waste every night of the week fighting to understand this kit so after a month of use I'm chucking it into a drawer until someone from Suunto agrees to take this back and refund my money. And now am going back to looking for a 50 quid HR monitor that will do the job! sorry I can't be more positive, if you are uber intelligent, eyes of an eagle and the patience of a saint then this is for you!

I exercise for years and years and only after i purchased SUUNTO QUEST i car run or jog on the appropriate heart rate.Its really easy to learn using it and its looks like good on my hand.

Wanted some new sunglasses for my holiday saw these looked to have some style and bought them by return service cant ask for more. The only problem was took them out of the box put them on to try and the flippen lens fell out! So come on guys have a little look at the product before you pack it up and send off isnt that whats calledcustomer care.

Bought these for a ski trip and never stopped wearing them. Till they disappered down a river kyaking. They had no problem suviving a cluts like me, multipule drops without a scratch, so its time to get another pair I think.

I bought this item for professional use and have found it indespensible. It provides accurate readings both adults and older children and due to the compact size, I am able to keep it in my pocket for quick use. The carrying case is very useful for protecting the oximeter when carrying from site to site.
AnnWiz provided fast efficient sales, thank you.
p.s. I would imagin that the product would also be useful for non medical use by sportsmen and women for pulse monitoring on-the-go.

As a patient with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease I wanted to be able to monitor my blood oxygen levels. This product does the job beautifully. I am immediately able to check both oxygen in the blood and pulse rate. As soon as I remove my finger the display zeroes and in a second or so automatically switches off to maintain battery life. Just the job.

Working as a GP, this is very handy- small, lightweight complete with a cover. Its cheap & does not feel very robust but is practical & very easy to use. I didn't get to choose a colour when ordering it but got a yellow one which looks fine. It takes a couple of seconds to start reading when the button is pressed & then turns itself off a few seconds after removed. Takes 2xAAA batteries. Would definitely recommend it to other health professionals as basic equipment.
